25 years have passed since the devastating magnitude 6.7 Northridge earthquake struck the San Fernando Valley. Thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed, displacing about 22,000 people. The Northridge earthquake is known to be one of the most costly natural disasters in U.S. history, causing $20 billion in residential damage alone.
CEA Remembers The Northridge Earthquake: 25 Years Later
Outreach across the state
CEA was created in the wake of the Northridge earthquake. Our policies have expanded over the years, and we now work with more than 25 participating residential insurance companies to offer homeowners, mobilehome owners, condo unit owners, and renters policies to Californians. With more than 1 million policyholders, CEA is committed to helping Californians retrofit their older houses to reduce earthquake damage, and to offer them more insurance options to help cover additional living expenses and expensive repair costs.
To commemorate the Northridge anniversary, CEA created a half-page publication for placement in newspapers in areas of high earthquake risk.
Additionally, you can read our Northridge press release, our lessons from Northridge agent blog, and follow our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts for newsworthy and up-to-date Northridge stories and events.
