CEA hosted a research forum Feb. 1 and 2 at the Sacramento Convention Center, to discuss earthquake-related research with industry leaders and experts.
CEA CEO Glenn Pomeroy and other CEA executives shared information about current and upcoming projects within their areas of expertise, and CEA Chief Mitigation Officer Janiele Maffei presented information about the organization’s research activities. She also shared details about a new grant program CEA will launch in 2017.
The forum also included presentations by experts in engineering, disaster mitigation and other scientific disciplines. Researcher Sharyl Rabinovici, Ph.D., presented the results of a CEA-sponsored study offering insight into the 2014 South Napa earthquake’s impact on houses and homeowners in the city of Napa. Presenters also discussed projects related to building-code standards and risk-communication tools.
On day two of the forum, attendees broke up first into self-identified disciplinary groups and then into multidisciplinary groups to identify potential topics and projects for new research opportunities.
CEA hopes to make the forum an annual event. Learn more about CEA’s research activities.
