More than six hundred San Francisco residents showed up to participate in this year's earthquake preparedness fair organized by the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection. The event took place at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium and CEA was one of about 80 entities invited to participate.
The residents had the opportunity to attend workshops about home remodeling, emergency preparedness, dwelling unit legalization, and how to comply with the accessible business entrance program. There were also mini emergency-training sessions that offered tips about earthquake response, fire safety, how to use a fire extinguisher, and how to perform CPR. The Quake Cottage was also on-site to provide participants the opportunity to feel a magnitude 8.0 earthquake.
CEA provided helpful information about the earthquake insurance policies available to residents who own a home, mobilehome, condo unit or who rent. They also explained the Earthquake Brace and Bolt program (EBB), which is offered to qualifying homeowners who want to retrofit their single-family houses to help reduce the potential for earthquake damage.
A lot of the residents were aware of the high probability of a massive earthquake striking San Francisco at any moment, including today. For that reason, they could not pass up the opportunity to meet face-to-face with the experts and collect as much information as possible to help them prepare for the next big one.
