Oct. 17 was the day of the annual Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills. During the event, known as the largest earthquake drill in the world, people practiced how to Drop, Cover, and Hold On for earthquake safety. From NorCal to SoCal, local residents—as part of the Great California ShakeOut—had the opportunity to practice what to do when the ground shakes. It was also the 30th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989, and the day California Governor Gavin Newsom announced California's launch of the statewide early warning system for earthquakes.
